Jane Artup | Aspire
Jane has always been passionate about the education space and working with young people to assist them to realise and reach their full potential. She started her career working for Mission Australia with a project dealing with the long term unemployed. This is where she became interested in the root causes of unemployment. After a year Jane started working with the Beacon Foundation, a national organisation which implements an early intervention approach to youth unemployment with a community approach to education and employment. She worked for Beacon for nine years, having a two year break in the middle to spend some time in the UK working with a similar organisation in East London which she loved which was also about getting young people back into education or employment.
It wasn’t all work during her time in London as this is where she found a love for travel. Jane would try to visit a different country every 5-6 weeks, spending every pound she earned on plane tickets and accommodation, with her favourite places still being Venice, Paris and of course London.
Jane grew up in the Blue Mountains and most family outings involved something to do with the bush, hence her love of bush walking. She also attends Barre classes and enjoys running as ways to keep fit.
Jane loves a new challenge and getting out of her comfort zone so after completing her Masters in Teaching in 2016 she even tried her hand at stand-up comedy, completing her first gig! But for now, developing her role at UNSW is a great challenge for her and she looks forward to working hard and adding true value to the schools and communities in which ASPIRE operates.
