Steffi Dourado | Aspire
Steffi is originally from Mumbai, India and came to Sydney in 2012. She completed most of her studies in India, after which she worked as an early childhood teacher and volunteered at various education focused not-for-profits in Mumbai.
Her experiences in Mumbai led to her passion for education and the role it plays in addressing social injustice and building social capital within communities. After graduating from UNSW in 2014, Steffi worked for two years at a primary school in Sydney as a community liaison officer. This role gave her the opportunity to work with families from migrant and refugee backgrounds and gain a better understanding of their strengths and needs. Based on this, she developed and delivered an array of programs that provided access to various early childhood development opportunities, support with navigating the education system in Australia and accessing other key services such as health and financial support.
Steffi started her role in ASPIRE in May 2017. As Project Officer Events, she works closely with both the metro and regional teams to ensure that on- and off-campus events are aligned with ASPIRE’s learning framework. With as many as 200 students on-campus at one time for some of the bigger events, she is constantly looking at ways to improve event logistics, liaising with a range of internal and external stakeholders to accomplish this. At the end of the day, her main goal is to ensure that the students and teachers attending have a positive experience of university and all that it has to offer.
Steffi likes to spend her weekends enjoying good food and company at one of the inner west markets or parks. Whenever possible, she also makes ia point of skyping with her family and friends in India and is always in the process of planning her next trip to see them!
